The most common type of thyroid disease is hypothyroidism and in the modern world, the most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Medical treatment guidelines focus only on thyroid hormone replacement. Mind you this is with precious little finesse in dosing and very few medication options.

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is a complex interaction of genes, environmental toxins, nutrients, the immune function and other hormones. Consequently, many patients need correction in a unique combination of these areas to really feel their best.

The purpose of this book is to serve the savvy, educated patient who is questing to regain their optimal health. For those of you who have done the basic steps and still are not at your best, this is for you.

This book received quite a few poor ratings due to "awkward phrasing" and "editing". While I agree with these statements, it does this book a disservice. I almost didn't purchase the book because of this. However, after reviewing the "Look Inside" and reading about 2 pages I learned something, enough to peak my curiosity. After having thyroid issues for 5+ years and having been diagnosed with Hashimoto's 2 years ago, I thought I knew quite a bit about the disease but I was wrong. I'm about 60% through this book and to me it has already been worth the purchase. I have already changed a few of my lifestyle patterns. Some of the reviewers stated that it's hard to follow. I disagree. I think it is very easy to follow and understand. Yes, it needs editing (thus the 3 stars). But I was able to put this aside and find the information and the style in which it is delivered very helpful.

Not useful; Isabella Wentz' protocol and Tom O'Bryan are MUCH better. Prompt delivery
Things you can use immediately. Short, not too technical, anyone can apply it. He should have an editor for a n it up but he's forgiven as he's a Dr not a writer.
This book is incredible in its information density and the concise, clear way everything is presented. I have read a few other books that I also appreciate (Isabella Wentz for instance), but this book gave me a much more complete understanding of how the thyroid works, how it's connected to the pituitary and hypothalamus, and how it is wired to the adrenals and further on to even the reproductive system. Doctor Alan Christianson is honest and seems completely unbiased, which I appreciate. He is not trying to sell stuff in this book.

The key recommendations I got from reading this were to consider using natural dessicated thyroid for its complete profile of T4 + T3 + T2, the latter of which you don't get even when you combine T4 + T3 medications, plus to supplement with a good multivitamin in a capsule form. Of course, many other things too.

And yes, there are a few typos and missed words, which is not great, but it's easy to understand what is meant and is not a big deal. An easy 5 out of 5 stars!
Love this book! Easy read and talks about what I was looking for. Have been hypo for many years, but no one told me what to do for Hashimoto's and how that was impacting my slow down grade trend in my health. And thanks to The Thryoid Summit for connecting my to all these great doctors who get it, especially Dr Christianson!
Absolutely loved this book! So much info. I love that Dr Christianson even included which thyroid levels should be perceived as closer to normal function, so we have a goal to shoot for, not just go by what our Med Dr “thinks” is fine. He gave many examples of patient stories, and “normal” vs “optimal” hormone levels. I feel so much more informed and able to interpret my own test results to gauge now how I’m truly feeling. I even feel more equipped to request the proper tests now that my Dr has never thought to order. Thank you for writing this book! It has changed my ability to manage my own health.
While some reviews her focus on the writing and editorial flaws - some people have written reviews based on the actual content - let me be included in that later group.

At first glance, this simple book seems to be a primer on thyroid health - especially for those of us who have read and researched a lot of material. On a second read, when I decided to let go of the cosmetic flaws, I saw a book this is well-organized in its format. Each chapter provides a chapter at a glance, so you know what is covered, and at the end of each chapter is a chapter review and action steps.

The topics are well-selected and written in a very casual manner (I agree with others who have said this was probably a workshop or lecture that was transcribed). I find the end of chapter action steps very helpful.

Dr. Christianson does more than recite a lot of research. He actually provides bottom line useful information that I can use immediately.
I am in awe after reading some of the reviews of this book. Sure, there might be some editorial problems in places, but the quality of the information included in this book far outweigh any negatives. In the Introduction section Dr. Christianson states that the reader should think of this book as a conversation that you might have with him on a flight from LA to New York, so maybe people expected something else. Therefore, if you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis or if you are considering purchasing this book for a family member or friend, please disregard the overly-critical reviews that focus on writing style and buy this book! In it, he outlines the how, why, and what to do about Hashimoto's. It helped answer some of my most puzzling questions and gave me hope and direction for the future. It also empowered me to have an informed discussion with my healthcare practitioner so that I could have various options for treatment. I should add that this is not the only Hashimoto Thyroiditis book that I have read, I have read several others which are also very good and I would recommend those also. They include books written by Izabella Wentz's, Datis Kharrazian, Mickey Trescott, and Gabor Mate. Thank you for reading my review.
