Amy Choice A More Perfect Union Series Book 2 Betty Bolte 9781614176602 Books
The second novel in Betty Bolte's "A More Perfect Union" series finds the heroine facing men's antiqued view on marriage, kidnapping by British loyalist renegades, and the quandary whether or not to keep her vow to never marry or give into the very desirable Benjamin. I enjoyed watching Amy mature into a strong, independent, loyal woman and watching Benjamin have a change in attitude. Strong women with thoughts of equality are at the core of Bolte's well written books. I especially loved that Amy saved herself, not once but twice, in this story. Now on to see what is in store for Samantha in "Samantha's Secret".Tags : Amy's Choice (A More Perfect Union Series, Book 2) [Betty Bolte] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. This story continues on from the first book and is Amy’s and Benjamin story of how they find their way back to each other. Amy and Ben had a relationship and then one day three years ago he just left. No note or letter explaining why to Amy. She was heartbroken and decided she never wanted to feel that way again. Now Ben is back in town and intends for get Amy back. His views on marriage and a women’s role are a little off from Amy’s. Amy is afraid to lose her independence if she were to marry. Amy tries her best to fight her feelings for Ben but she is having some trouble doing that. I enjoyed this book. You get to read more about the characters from the first book as well as learn more about Amy and Ben and their past. I enjoy series where you get to continue reading about the characters in the first book in subsequent books in the series. Amy is spunky, independent, loving, and loyal. Ben is strong, loving, loyal, and a spy. Ben learns though out the book that his views on marriage are a little rough and that he may have been wrong. The more he falls for Amy the more he realizes that. This book has romance, a little danger, and a great group of characters. The book is well written and I love the characters. They drew me in and made me want to keep reading. I look forward to reading the next book and reading more about the characters in this series.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
War changes people and living in a war zone either makes or breaks a person. War changed Amy from a naive, carefree young Southern belle to a wary, determined woman who knew what she wanted. When Benjamin returns after three unexplained years away from home, Amy is in no frame of mind to accept his request to court her. Ben has fixed ideas about the role his wife will fulfil, and Amy has no intention of fitting into his plans. When Amy's sister needs her help, she leaves town, thereby missing the announcement that will bring about even more change to their lives, as well as increased danger.
This book covers a sad period in the history between the "Colonies" and Britain, bringing out all the deprivation and dangers facing the populace, as well as the risks taken to ensure that the lines of supply were kept open. Nevertheless, as a romance it was sad book to read as a certain amount of bitterness had settled on Amy, making it difficult for her to accept Ben's attentions. On the other hand Ben had a few lessons to learn, and it was well that he was faced with circumstances that made him rethink his position. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. "Amy's Choice (A More Perfect Union Series, Book Two)" is remarkable for many reason's and may definitely be read as a standalone book. In fact, I completely forgot it was part of a series until after I had finished reading and began thinking and writing this review.
The author chose a very unique time period in America as the tapestry with which to weave her story and the perfect location as well.
The book takes place during what I describe as a time of limbo between the immediate end of the American Revolutionary War and the signing of The Treaty of Paris in 1783. This is during the subsequent birthing pains before the negotiated formality & reality of peace between Great Britain and the United States with historic Charles Town as the setting.
This timing permits for a varied amalgamation of characters. Picture, if you will, not only the backdrop of a location in turmoil and transition but of the mix of humanity present as well. Soldier's from both sides, civilian loyalist's and patriot's, deserter's, the sudden flux of freemen and slave's, the dismantling of war camps with the women and children accompanying them converging there and flooding so many cities and townships along the Eastern Seaboard.
So, to the town itself, Betty Bolté boldly adds her woman of diversity and strong character. Some among them have become frontiers women, healer's and midwives, storytellers, newswomen and suffragists. Sister's of both kinship and friendship who bravely deal with topics, situations and ideas we may mistakenly consider exclusively contemporary.
There are matters of spousal abuse, alcoholism, legends, superstitions and subterfuge which serve as some of the circumstances to showcase convoluted & complicated romantic relationships.
With all these supurb elements I read and enjoyed "Amy's Choice" in one sitting.
