Cate Beauman is a master storyteller who brings her characters to life in the pages of her books. FOREVER ALEXA made me laugh out loud, groan in frustration and cry in despair as Jack and Alex worked both together and against each other to find Abby. Through her words I really felt the range of emotions Alex travelled during her lifetime...the joys and the sorrows. I felt Jack's frustration and heartache as he fought to find Abby and hold onto his family. FOREVER ALEXA is a book that is impossible to put down. I loved the first three books in this series, Morgan's Hunter, Falling for Sarah and Hailey's Truth, but FOREVER ALEXA is far and above my favorite in the series. That being said, I not only recommend but encourage readers of romantic suspense to give Ms. Beauman's books a try.....you will not be disappointed!!!

This is a fun series to spend the day with. I recommend that they be read in order only because it will spoil the ending of previous books. Alexa experiences the nightmare most parents or caregivers dread when her sister Abby is kidnapped right in front of her and her young daughter. At the end of her rope, Alexa contacts her college sweetheart who never knew he was her daughters father. As the story unfolds, father and daughter are united and a family bond is created. Members of the Cooke security firm works with Alexa to get Abby home as soon as possible and there is where the adventure begins.
Even though I'm late to the party so to speak, I really like these books. There are, however, two repeated spelling/grammatical errors that have begun to really annoy me. The use of the word "weary" when the auther actually means "wary" and the use of the word "peak" or "peaking" when the auther means "peek(ing)". Wary means watchful; being on one's guard against danger. Weary is feeling or showing tiredness. Peek means to look or glance quickly or furtively. Peak is to reach a highest point, either of a specified value or at a specified time. So please please please edit these stories more carefully. Having this kind of error on occasion is distracting yet understandable as no one is perfect, but when it is repetitive it shows ignorance of the true meanings and that becomes annoying.
So far the best of this series for me was the first book, Morgan's Hunter. This book has a compelling plot and characters with a history that usually makes for good story telling about second chances. The problem? I couldn't stand the title character - Alexa. Although her sister has been kidnapped and she's under enormous stress, I didn't feel sorry for her. Jack I liked and felt for. Alexa undermined the tactics and plans of the professionals, including Jack and the police, ignored repeated warnings and defended her stupidity with the repeated mantra "I have to save my sister". What did she think all of these other people were trying to do? The kidnappers have threatened Alexa and her daughter directly, yet she continues to substitute her judgment for that of the security and law enforcement professionals. Which of course, just increases the risk to everyone's safety.

She wasn't kind or nice or sympathetic. Jack could do better except, as he discovers, after he abruptly ended their relationship four years earlier, Alexa discovered she was pregnant. So Jack is just meeting his daughter and in the midst of all of the drama over Alexa's sister's kidnapping, Jack is developing a relationship with her while trying to right past wrongs and win Alexa back. The beginning and the end were the best parts. The middle left much to be desired and although it had potential, it missed the mark for me with such and unlikeable heroine.
The first 2-3 chapters and the last 3 are very exciting but everything in the middle is kind of borderline boring. I didn't care for Alexa. She is suppose to be an independent woman but acts like a spoilt child. Jack in return treats her like the spoilt child that she is acting like and demands she do things his way.

In the beginning of the book, Alexa's sister, Abby, is kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring. I actually thought they went to a lot of trouble to take Abby when they could have taken Alexa. Abby was in a locked car and Alexa had gotten out of the car to use the facilities.

Alexa feels helpless and decides to seek help from her ex-boyfriend who also happens to be the father of her child. A child he knew nothing about. I actually understood why Alexa never told Jack about Lilly.

I like romantic suspense but I prefer when the focus is more on the suppennse/mystery and less on the couple. The writer felt like she had to put the couple at odds - against each other. They both wanted to do things their way and refused to compromise or discuss it which kind of made me feel like they didn't belong together.
